Here’s what’s happening at Bastion Elementary, this week:

Monday, February 25th
PAC Meeting. All parents and guardians of our students are welcome to join us at 6:30 pm for the monthly PAC meeting. The meeting will take place in the Music room, and free babysitting is provided. We hope to see you there!

Tuesday, February 26th
Ready, Set, Learn! Our annual Ready, Set, Learn event will be taking place at 1:00 pm, in the gym. Ready, Set, Learn is a free early learning event for families with pre-school aged children who are 3 to 5 years old. All families who attend will receive free books and a kit of materials and resources to help support their child’s early learning experiences. Families are encouraged to pre-register for the event by calling the main office(250.832.3741) or contact Jennifer Findlay at jfindlay@sd83.bc.ca for more information.
Grade 5 Girls’ Basketball. Mme Valerie’s team will be playing at Bastion, against South Broadview. Mrs. Smith’s team will be travelling to Armstrong to play against Highland Park. Good luck girls! Play hard and have fun!!

Wednesday, February 27th
Pink Shirt Day 2019. All of our students and staff members have been invited to wear pink on Wednesday to acknowledge Pink Shirt Day. The idea comes from two incredible Nova Scotia high school students in 2007. When a fellow student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, they decided to take a stand. They went out and bought pink shirts to give to fellow students to show their support for a boy who was being bullied simply for wearing a pink shirt. At Bastion, we have been focusing on kindness over the past couple of weeks, leading up to our celebration of kindness on Pink Shirt Day. All classes will be invited to attend the Pinknic at Lunch, where everyone can come to the gym and eat lunch together. #BEKIND #d’etre respectueux
Field Trip to Larch Hills. Mme van Varseveld and Mme Reid’s classes will be going to Larch Hills to participate in some snowshoeing and cross country skiing. We hope everyone has a wonderful time and dresses warmly!!

Thursday, February 28th
Grade 5 Boys’ Basketball. Mr. Mueller’s team will be playing at Bastion, against MV Beattie. Mr. Menzies’ team will be playing at South Broadview. Both teams have been showing wonderful improvement over the last few weeks!! Keep up the good work, boys!
Fun Food Orders Due. If families have not pre-ordered for Fun Food Days, please be sure to complete an order online (or send in a form) and submit payment by today.

Friday, March 1st.
Art Fair. From March 1st to March 8th, the annual SD83 Art Fair will be taking place at Piccadilly Mall. Artwork from all the elementary schools will be on display, so feel free to spend some time looking at all of the amazing art. Some of our Grade 4 and 5 students will be participating in Art workshops, at the mall, on March 6th.
